Knobs

Did you know there are, like, a bazillion knobs to choose from? The doors and cabinets all need knobs. Some knobs work and some don't called dummy knobs; it's not very nice, could we say rotationally challenged knobs instead?

The Kitchen: We chose thin shaker style cabinets from Brighton at Cabinet Discounters in Chantilly, VA. The cabinets, by the nature of the company, are custom designed for you and the soft closing drawers are standard (not extra like so many other companies). They even do some witchery with the drawers under counter top stoves - they cut back the sides of the drawer so you still get one but without the wasted space. Our designer is Ramsey and the man is an artist! He thinks of what you wouldn't; sheer genius.

knobdeals.com has a simple selection and you can't beat the prices! They even have an 'under a dollar' section!

Cabinets (40): #1291, Oil Rubbed, 1-1/4in square and projection, Zinc Alloy, traditional $2.45/each
Pulls (16): #2939 Oil Rubber, 4-34in length, 13/16in projection, 3in mount, traditional .99/each

The Master Bathroom: Pretty great really. White cabinets and a really cool Cambrian, papya that looks like the ocean. I want this room to make you smile so I am debating between two different styles. I need 4 knobs and 4 pulls.

coolknobsandpulls.com has a square glass knob for $9.95/each (#G240 Square Glass and Chrome, 1-3/4in sq) and a simple drawer pull for $3.58 (#8223 Modern Collection, 7-5/8in)

myknobs.com has a crab knob for $22 (ANN-07258, pewter), starfish knob for $9.24 (ATL-24715, pewter) and an anchor for $16.95; the pull is a manatee for $13.50 (SL44404)

ESTIMATED PROJECT COST: $52 - $142

The Mini-Bar in Our Room: Our house is on the water, so I am going to have fun with white cabinets and for cleats as knobs and pulls on the cabinets and drawers. It's as little whimsical and won't cost an arm and a leg.

marine-products.com has a nice selection of cleats.

Entry, Bedroom and Closet Doors: Just when you are feeling like you are on top of this, you have more knobs to select and this time I have to add hinges! UGH! Ok, get a grip and start counting ... I'll need 5 privacy knobs, 2 passage door knobs, 4 dummy door knobs.

Entry doors: Home Depot hawthorne by Kwiki (#754825) for $129 and check the Nostalgic Warehouse NY Single Cylinder (841644) for $89.99 for side door ; handlesets.com Westlock bolt (3771) for $28.38 and matching knob key (37401) for $41.76
